Review of The War of the Worlds (1953) by Scott G — 22 May 2008
50s paranoia of communism, spawn panic not just in corridors of power in washington, but the film industry, and this was one of many films coming out swapping comunists with space aliens, nd making great nd entertaining films while there at it, based on famous book, orson welles also did a great hoax reading it on the radio.
martians invade america, with devastating afect, and its up to the militery and scientists to stop them, well made, really gripping in a 50s kinda way, and a major influence, joe dante shows up on dvd commentery.
anyone whos seen spielbergs/cruise version, will testifi there diferent films, spielbergs being more personal, and family based, but this film being more focused with scientific explanations, a great sci film, everyone shold watch.
