Review of The War of the Worlds (1953) by Mark H — 22 Jan 2009
Makes the Tom Cruise version look like baggy saggy pants. Byron Haskins and the film's production designers realised early on that three-legged fighting machines would just fall over if they tried to walk, so they made them fly. Admittedly you can see the strings in some shots but this film dates from 1953!
A far more faithful adaptation of H G Wells's novel than the Tom Cruise version and far better for it.
