Review of The War of the Roses (1989) by Elizabeth S — 03 Jun 2007
The comedy in this movie was good, but it's not what makes it a really great movie. The focus on Kathleen Turner as a woman having lived in her husbands shadow for so long that she arrived in her mid-life with no identity for herself is what makes this more than just a comedy.
I lol'd at some nerds description of this movie "Marketed as a comedy, but really just a dark and depressing story. Kathleen Turner played the wife from hell." Grats, you don't understand women (or at least middle aged women) at all.
If anything Michael Douglas is the husband from hell belittling all her attempts at establishing her own identity that does not include himself.
