Review of The War of the Roses (1989) by Jerard W — 21 Dec 2008
An excellent black comedy with two characters Oliver and Barbara Rose (Michael Douglas and Kathleen Turner) that we both love and loathe at the same time as two once in loved people meeting by chance who are realizing after 18 years that the thrill is gone.
Danny DeVito does a great job of utilizing camera angles and camera shots in scenes (The Dinner Party with the bosses is an example) that heightens the tension between Oliver and Barbara Rose so that we can give some justification in their actions and their moods. The final scenes in the movie are both shocking and surreal, providing a moral stand on relationships and revenge.
