2: An odd film and definitely not what I was expecting. Harrelson really turns in a tour de force performance of sorts though. It's one of his best, but he isn't quite gifted enough to make it carry the film.

The character just doesn't interest me nearly as much as some of the others in the story. I guess Schrader and I simply have different tastes. He's definitely made some excellent characters over the years, but he and Harrelson aren't a good enough team to make the film flow and hold the audiences interest throughout.

I'm a bit amazed at how well Bacall still looks on screen after seeing her so different live and in person. Scott Thomas is wonderful as always although she definitely isn't given much to do. The story strikes me as simply ignoring the more interesting parts of the potential plot in order to delve into a character study.

It approached the world from a unique angle, but I find the more conventional D.C. power portraits far more watchable. I'm definitely underwhelmed and disappointed.
