Review of The Walk (2015) by Calvin C — 05 Oct 2015
Everything leads up to the walk itself so there is about 90 minutes of setup and backstory. The on screen narration makes it feel like we are watching a fantasy, which the movie feels like despite being based on a true story. The whole planning is like a heist movie. Then there is the moment we all came to see. The exhilirating 17-minute sequence is the reason IMAX 3D was made for. If you have a fear of heights, the scene will test your limits. Robert Zemeckis really makes you feel like you are on that wire with Petit and I felt like I was on a ride. That climatic scene is what makes the movie work. The story before it is entertaining, but some may feel like it drags and they just want to get to it already. Also, the movie honors The World Trade Center with great taste without actually making any references to 9/11. Petit is just like those towers: willing to dream big and forever reaching for the sky.
Grade: A-.
