Review of The Walk (2015) by Ben F — 15 Oct 2015
This is a strange one. The heist aspects and CGI renderings in The Walk are undoubtedly amazing, visually. The dialogue is frequently ham-fisted and Disney-like, almost unbelievably so. I respect what Zemeckis attempted to do in adapting the memoir/doc by literally having Gordon-Levitt address the camera, but the voiceover goes on and on, cliches abound.
The high-wire walk itself did not make me feel physically "there" as many felt (or ill, which some experienced), but the calm, colorful sequence was great regardless. As a tribute to the towers, I certainly felt a lot of emotion by the end, and it really succeeds in that regard.
Overall, had I seen this on television and not in IMAX 3D, I probably would have changed the channel (to reruns of Frasier).
