Review of The Walk (2015) by David F — 09 Jan 2016
The Walk is an entertaining adventure based on a true story which despite its predictability manages to fully engage the audiences and to amaze them with stunning camera work and amazing visual impact on everyone. Deprived from the thrills of uncertainty and not knowing what would be the outcome, the movie is a relatively straight-forward story that would certainly please anyone seeing it at home.
Robert Zemeckis' delivery is based on the true story of how the fearless French wire-walker Philippe Petit (Joseph Gordon-Levitt) prepares and executes an act that would stun the world. With a wild ambition, endless talent and a glimpse of craziness, Philippe gathers a team of accomplices who help him achieve the unthinkable. The story develops pretty smoothly and it could be considered pretty straight-forward. Of course, the predictability factor takes its toll, but the director Zemeckis partially compensates this with some truly breath-taking camera shots that would make you feel sick of the heights.
Probably the only thing that looks strange in the whole production is actually the make-up used on Joseph Gordon-Levitt, which creates the feeling as if he is a computer-generated character. Neverthless, if you do not pay attention to this, you would certain have a pretty good time watching this movie.
