Review of The Walk (2015) by Phillip V — 10 Jan 2016
Let's get this out of the way: The Walk is a pretty awful film. From the terrible accents, to the "let's speak English because our studio thinks people are too stupid to read subtitles", to the forced emotional scenes, there isn't a lot to like about the way this incredible story is presented here.
I'm sure what the three people who will read this review will say is that I'm missing the point, which is that the film is all about the climax and that to truly enjoy it you had to see it in IMAX 3D.
The big pay off was impressive. The special effects were incredible. I can say that about a lot of films that also were pretty awful. Point being, I didn't think this was an enjoyable film just because it offered a thrill for 20 minutes near the end.
As a rule, I enjoy Joseph Gordon-Levitt, but I did not feel like this was a good role for him. I wouldn't recommend watching it in its entirety. Rather see if you can find a clip of the walk itself, enjoy it, then turn it off.
It's not worth it to sit through 1 hour and 40 minutes for crap.
