Review of The Walk (2015) by Kirby P — 17 Jan 2016
Enjoyable for the most part (mostly because of a charming lead actor and a solid director behind the camera), this film attempts to recreate the story of Philippe Petit and his amazing high wire performance between the Twin Towers in 1974.
The documentary about this subject is far more entertaining and engaging, but when this film gets to the act of the Coup, from the moment they attempt to get into the building right through the tightrope walk.
..it is pretty great stuff. Everything leading up to that is just okay and not much to write home about. But that high wire walk is really something to experience here, even if you kind of know absolutely everything you are seeing is fake.
Zemeckis still has a little bit of that something that makes him a great director.
