Review of The Walk (2015) by Simon T — 03 Oct 2016
I'm a big fan of Robert Zemeckis, but he over-eggs the fascinating story of wire-walker Philippe Petit's iconic stunt atop the Twin Towers in the early-70s. The story needs no bells and whistles, and deserves a far subtler screenplay.
From the start the tone is all wrong: cartoonish, parody French. Joseph Gordon-Levitt is good as Petit, Ben Kingsley overacts as only he can as Petit's mentor, and Alan Silvester ladles a horribly mawkish score over everything.
A long disappointment.
