Review of The Wait (2013) by Don B — 10 May 2014
For those expecting a plot driven narrative, you will be disappointed but for those happy with flavor, sit back and enjoy. The visuals are intriguing, the interplay between the characters and rendering of emotional content is rich for those watching with empathy.
Plot (spoiler) mom dies, older sister has been caretaker and had not told younger sister mom was sick until near death. At the moment of death the older sister gets a cryptic phone call indicating mom will come back, at end of film discovers the phone call was a computer game of some sort and realizes mom is not coming back.
Younger sister thinks resurrection is nutty until she finds rebirth of love now, after betrayal in last romance. Everyone connects with nature in hopes of bringing mom(grandma) back, including younger sister's new romantic partner who makes and buries a time capsule dedicated the the magic of the families historical moment the progresses us through.
End of movie it appears mom has come back as disillusioned older daughter opens front door to meet her as doorbell rings. All the time the backdrop is a forest fire on the mountain and the local residents going about business as usual.
I did fine on this film although I can see why 80% of viewers felt it was not their cup of tea.
