Review of The Wages of Fear (1953) by Lauren - — 01 Sep 2007
If you are a fan of gut-wrenching tension and love being manipulated by the master of suspense Alfred Hitchcock then you truly should see this film, so Henri-Georges Clouzot directed a number of my favourite films but here he excels.
The film is basically about a bunch of not so angelic men driving trucks full of very sensitive explosives along some the most ridiculous roads in South America, without the safety equipment they desperately need.
The setting is perfect for such a film, the Latin American environment is stifling, grimy and enough to drive anyone off the edge and when rivalry between drivers erupts well the combination of nitro-glycerine and heated testosterone isn?t good.
It is also an interesting sociological view on American Imperialism.
