Review of The Wages of Fear (1953) by Michael B — 07 May 2008
The translation is sanitized, but this is an amazing timepiece of a film. Almost surreal at times with it's strange mix of cultures and languages, replete with overt racism, nudity, and profanity typical of French cinema of the era.
A slow start, but the suspense builds very well. Hard to believe Friedkin's not-so-memorable "Sorcerer" (1977) was based on the same story.
