Review of The Wages of Fear (1953) by Michael O — 22 Jul 2009
The most emotional, suspenseful, beautiful, gritty, realistic, and honest movie ever made by a Frenchman in the 50s (perhaps even by anyone). I have never been so rapt by a picture - this is the finest entertainment.
Instead of a disgusted look towards greed it uses a different word altogether and portrays valor and ambition in the face of danger. Money isn't the ultimate goal it's sensing that while there's nothing past the gates of life there is a thirst to pursue the fruits within it.
