Review of The Wages of Fear (1953) by Travis H — 12 Sep 2004
A film that doesn't resort with scare tactics, or even play with your mind, but does just enough to always keep you on the edge of your seat. It starts off slow (took me a good 45 minutes to get into it, but it is 2 1/2 hours long), but picks up once the journey begins, and never really lets off. Clouzot's direction is superb and the acting is all good. I would also like to say that this film has the best use of the "Blue Danube Waltz" (that is what was playing at the end...right...?)...compared to 2001. I'm not really sure what to say about the ending...but I saw it coming from a mile away (literally). Anyway, a well-made and suspenseful film.
