Review of The Wages of Fear (1953) by Adrian B — 14 Jan 2011
"The Wages of Fear" is an utterly shocking film of unbelievable intensity. I will simplify the plot in this sentence: four men want to get out of this poor town by driving a bunch of trucks loaded with nitroglycerine to a burning oil rig 300 miles away.
No more given. The first forty minutes are the introduction of the lives surrounding the people, beautifully shot and illustrating their disgust with their inability of getting out because of their poorness.
The remainder is just history. The acting is really good. The set pieces and cinematography are great. Time passes by quickly when watching this film. It is definately one of the finer foreign films of them all.
