Review of The Wackness (2008) by Anna C — 19 Feb 2009
I've been thinking as to why I shouldn't give this movie 5 stars, and the only thing I can think of is that I wasn't completely wowed...but I don't know why I wasn't. I don't have a single negative thing to say.
the script, acting, directing, and cinematography were all great. the soundtrack was perfect (i haven't heard "flava in ya ear" in years). ben kingsley...well...was ben kingsley. I enjoyed the fact that we only saw what we needed to see: a formative summer in a teenager's life.
we weren't forced to watch a lot of set-up or boring expository. the story was told very well and didn't try to hammer home some kind of message or agenda. this is just a good movie. put it in the same category as "igby goes down," but with a more urban feel.
I give it 4 stars, but that could go higher. but if you're not interested in anything i've said, see it for kingsley: he rules this.
