Review of The Wackness (2008) by Dave W — 06 Apr 2009
I dug it. It's not anything particularly original, but it takes a spin on the typical romantic drama. The pot dealing and the hip hop are the source of that spin, but the story goes some interesting places.
Generally I don't like flicks where the protagonist acts like an idiot (I.E. Kids) but Josh Peck makes the dumb pot dealer a someone likeable character. And Ben Kingsley is perfect, complimenting Peck every chance they are on screen together.
Olivia Thirlby is alright, and she serves her purpose but she never really does anything too great. The soundtrack is superb and mixes the likes of B.I.G. and Bowie with ease (eh-hem to the people who claimed that the music in Watchmen was "good" take a hint from this).
It's not a classic by any means, but I do find myself wanting to watch it again.
