Review of The Wackness (2008) by Remi L — 27 Aug 2009
Interesting little coming-of-age story about a white boy who is in love with hip-hop and a snobby, rebellious upper East Side girl who has paid him no mind their entire high school careers...until the summer.
Along with his pot-smoking psychiatrist and constantly-arguing parents, this made for an entertaining drama. I think Josh Peck gave a great performance. He really embodied the love-sick, fresh teenager with his false bravado, concealed innocence (until he's alone), and angst.
Sir Ben Kingsley was also very enjoyable as a pot-smoking, angsty, wry old man trying to relive his youth through Peck's character. And the bonus was hearing many old-school hip-hop songs (mostly by Notorious B.
I.G.) that I haven't heard since I was in elementary!
