Review of The Wackness (2008) by Julian T — 25 Oct 2010
Luke Shapiro is an unpopular, rap-loving, drug-dealing teen in love with the popular girl and stuck in the city over the summer of 1994 and just trying to get by with a little help from his dope-smoking psychiatrist and the Notorious B.I.G.
Although seeing Academy-Award-winning Ben Kingley play an overaged stoned lost boy was amusing while Josh Peck's performance as the drug-dealing misfit shows some true acting potential, this film's attempt at being a touching coming-of-age alice-of-life odyssey just trips on its own irrelevance and renders it a complete waste of time.
"The Wackness" tries so hard to be what it wants to be, all it succeeds in doing is missing the point and rendering itself completely useless.
And yes, it does actually feature Mary-Kate Olsen.
