Review of The Wackness (2008) by Zack B — 05 Feb 2011
I really want to like this movie more.
I love the story and the music....but ultimately it was the casting I didn't care for. I didn't like Josh Peck in the role. I don't think it suited him as well as it could have for another actor. I mean, he's good. But I kept getting annoyed by him as I watched the film. The way he talked. I think I should have related to his character more since I have a bit in common with him, but I couldn't because I kept get distracted by how much Josh Peck was annoying me. Ben Kingsley was also an odd choice and I'm not sure how I feel about him in this movie. I did think Olivia Thirlby was perfect as the seductive, impossible-to-get girl next door. But other than her I didn't like the cast. It's too bad because I think this movie had potential to be one of the great coming-of-age films.
