Review of The Vow (2012) by Juan H — 12 Oct 2012
The Vow.
A film that takes you through the struggles of one couple after a fateful accident or a film that abides strictly to cliche's?
I have to start by saying while I was interested in this film, I was never greatly moved to see it, rather I thought it to be another Tatum romance drama film.
This film is that but with enough energitic and heartfelt performances from the cast it takes this film above and beyond what it could of been. The story about how a couple deal with the memory loss of another is heartfelt and touching. Eventhough I didn't shed a tear, I felt as if I could relate in a weird way. While Tatum's performance is a little stiff this is argubably his best dramatic performance yet. You could feel what he was going through. He raised voice when I would have, he cried when I would have, I felt as if I was along for this story. While it may not teach alot of new things it did show me what it really means to be committed in a marriage and how if you are meant to be with someone; somehow, somewhere the great powers that be will let it happen. For true love can not be lost for it was never forgotten. While the twist left something to be desired and some conflicting and confusing emotions. The film gets back on its feet to give us the generic happy ever after. The one thing that people may have missed though is what it took to get there and how it was worth it in the end. As to conclude this film may have not been perfect but it almost got there. The journey it took me one was one of heartbreak and mend. It was the journey not the destination that counted. Or as Mr. Tatum's character puts it, "You can't, no matter how hard you try, see or comprehend how these moments will affect you. You just have to let the collision occur until another one does.".
