Review of The Vow (2012) by Bob S — 20 Jan 2013
I'll admit I became sucked in to this old-fashioned romance starring Tatum and McAdams. The film was more impactful for me because I really felt for the husband as he dealt with the consequences of his wife's condition following a car accident.
The story itself is extraordinary, but I never felt that the rather implausible scenario was unrealistic. Tatum and McAdams were decent, but Tatum's role at times was a tad too gushy. The casting of Neill and Lange as the parents-in-law worked extremely well - both played confident, upper-class parents perfectly with a touch of malevolence and vulnerability.
This film is a good example of how a strong script can help hold up other aspects of the project.
