Review of The Vow (2012) by David G — 27 Feb 2013
Romantic drama about young husband and wife Leo and Paige (Channing Tatum and Rachel McAdams), whose four-year relationship is washed away in an instant when a car accident leaves Paige with memory loss.
Finding himself a stranger to his own wife, Leo is faced with the task of rebuilding the relationship from scratch, a situation that is complicated by Paige's estranged family who are using her memory loss as an opportunity to integrate themselves into her life again.
This is a competently handled drama with some interesting themes and decent performances but don't expect much in the way of surprises - it's very formulaic (slimy ex-fiance alert!) - ironic really considering it's based on a true story! You may also find yourself struggling to connect with the two lead characters, especially Paige who's really rather unlikable.
Leo fares better but for all his charm he's still a roided up idiot who thinks the best thing to do for his brain damaged wife upon her return home from hospital is to throw her a huge surprise party!
