Review of The Vow (2012) by Faeze N — 17 May 2014
A variant of Fifty First Dates (albeit done seriously) along with a healthy serving of Serendipity (albeit less sappy) brings us the Vow, focusing loosely (although why?) on a couple involved in a car accident causing Rachel Mcadams to loose her adulthood memories including those of her courtship and marriage years with her husband and forcing them along the Nicholas Sparks track of guy from the artist side of the tracks trying to win her back from her well to do family as she retreats to the last things she remembers.
As far as the genre goes, not a bad film even through it covers familar tropes and Mcadams as always is reliable and in her forte as the female lead. Always makes me curious for her to try films outside of her comfort zone to see her stretch as an actress but also not complaining that she has found her niche quite possibly as the romantic genres new Julia Roberts/Meg Ryan.
