Surprisingly great; the atypical, blackly humorous story of a serial killer with a heart of gold and a head of crazy. It's totally horrific and often laugh out loud funny, a balance struck only because it's all actually mired in darkness the whole time.

The unreliable narrator is emotionally stunted, and so is the way he conceives of the world; this accounts for much of the film's humor (not to mention the script, which gives awesome lines to cat and dog characters).

Finally, nothing feels 'convenient' - characters' motivations are human and believable every time. This is rare in this genre- most movies want to explain away a serial killer's origin via a singular, life-shaping event.

Here, the protagonist's abusive past is actually a result of his existing mental illness.
