Review of The Voices (2014) by Daniel L — 10 Feb 2015
The voices was an interesting movie for me, I first heard about this movie though film festivals along with other movies like Frank and Predestination and the concept and cast were so interesting that I wanted to see it for a long time.
Well I just saw it a few days ago and it was damn terrific. The voices is currently my favorite movie of 2015. All the elements that this movie had of comedy, horror and surprising drama were all balanced together beautifully.
Unlike the majority, I do think that Ryan Reynolds is a talented actor, he just doesn't get the best roles and here he delivers the best performance of his career. Reynolds is just so likable and weird and you just can't help but love his character.
He also has terrific chemistry with everyone in this movie which also includes his talking pets. The supporting cast is also great which includes Gemma Arterton, Anna Kendrick and Jacki Weaver all deliver very solid and memorable performances as well.
The script is just fantastic, it balances all the movies elements perfectly. It knows when to be legitimately hilarious and serious. The movie also has a surprising dramatic element to it with Reynolds character which shows an extra layer to this movie.
It's all done perfectly. The trailer to the voices doesn't show off the suspenseful and dramatic elements in the movie and I was surprised to see how beautifully they were handled. It all ends in the greatest end credit sequence since 22 Jump Street.
Its my favorite movie of 2015. I'll give it a 10 ???? I adored this movie.
