Review of The Voices (2014) by Chris E — 06 Apr 2015
"The Voices" may well be one of the best "dark comedies" I've seen since "Very Bad Things". Be warned this movie is of the darkest of comedies, basically black! Reynolds gives one of the best performances I've seen from him since "Buried", whereas he displays so much emotion from one scene to the next, he displays his range perfectly.
All of the acting was great but the standout performances came from Reynolds' pets, the back and forth banter between them was amazing. The film also does a great job of equally dispersing bits of comedy, drama, thriller and even horror throughout.
The only gripe I have with the film is the somewhat random end scene. While its a good reminder that the film is still a comedy, it just seems too lighthearted and silly for what we just watched and threw me off.
A more complete ending would have been suitable. Overall, this movie was insane (in a good way) and if you like your comedies dark, you may enjoy this one. A-.
