Review of The Visitation (2006) by David. B — 24 Nov 2007
Furlong has been in a lot of b movies of late. Cruel World came out a few years ago which was surprisingly good and Three Blind Mice before that which was even better, but Edward always seems to be the same person in each. Although his emotion may vary dramatically in most of them, but he is not a very convincing actor. I guess he's perfect for these types of films though, because he can usually outshine the very bad scripts he or his manager chooses. There hadn't been many decent horror/thriller films about religious cults, so I thought I would buy this and was only half impressed. And it was due to Edward being the center of the story. He was a bad casting choice for the role and not convincing as a mysterious religious hoodoo.
Well, the story actually follows a women vet and her son who move into town from the big city. But her son joins Furlongs cult along with most of the other townsfolk, because you see, Brandon(Furlong) is capable of curing illnesses and physical handicaps. So that leaves it up to her to get her son back from the cult and find out where Brandon is getting the powers from. It can get a little creepy, but what cult where a bunch of brainwashed people get on with their every day lives like zombies isn't? The script lacked depth, mainly due to the weak and uninspiring characters, but there is enough to this film to enjoy on a rainy day...
