Review of The Visit (2015) by Wendel J — 02 May 2016
M. Night Shenanigans.
Walking out of The Visit leaves the viewer wondering what the intention of the director was. Did the director intentionally make it "so bad it's good" and a make it a horror comedy spoof. It just confuses the viewer, because the film was not even that funny. Therefore it just feels like a mess, with direction struggling to find the right tone.
Surprisingly, the child actors were able to hold the film on their shoulders. They were shown to be quite talented and were not annoying like most child actors in films these days. The first act also showcased the characters quite well, as well as being consistently entertaining and often funny.
After this everything goes south leaving the viewer in a state of confusion and disbelief. It ends up becoming disturbing and stupid, leaving the question if it was intentionally bad.
Overall what had a promising beginning ended up being a mess, try again M. night.
Rating 6.3 (C-).
