Review of The Visit (2015) by Chere C — 12 Nov 2015
To people defending this movie, I am glad you have tolerance for this kind of movie. The Visit is an irritating, pointless, and generic found-footage horror movie with some good performances, some creepy moments, and some decent amount of heart.
The few-and-far-between good moments to not make up for its problematic directing, terrible writing, and frustratingly awful first half. If I was judging the first half alone, it would be rated 1/10. The second half adds some decently creepy moments and some touching moments, but do not save it from feeling pointless and weak.
It doesn't know if it wants to be a comedy or a horror movie, and unlike Evil Dead 2 where it blends together nicely, Shyamalan doesn't know how to blend them. The few good scenes this movie have don't save this movie, like the few good scenes in The Village don't save that.
The Village, however, has beautiful cinematography and a great score to back it up. While this movie doesn't need those things, it certainly doesn't make it any more rewatchable. Overall, I don't despise this movie, but I will never see it again in my life.
3.75/10.
