The tense parts were very tense, but there are plenty of unnecessary scenes that could've been cut. The thing about found footage movies is that after you've seen it once, there isn't much to generate a desire to re-watch them.
Very few found footage films achieve that re-watchability (which is a real measure of quality), sadly The Visit isn't one of them. And a musical decision at a crucial moment in the story nearly destroyed the entire film for me.
That being said, it's definitely worth a watch and hopefully this signals a return to form for M. Night.
