Review of The Virginity Hit (2010) by Alex F — 29 Sep 2010

A few weeks back I was wondering around at work, bored as usual. To occupy my time I wondered into a film to watch some new trailers. The first trailer was dull and uninteresting, but the second trailer grabbed my attention. The trailer was about three high school teens trying to help the fourth in their group loose his virginity. The trailer brought my attention to a little known movie called The Virginity Hit.

The story opens revealing that all but one of the four have lost their virginity and taken a ritualistic bong hit referred to as the virginity hit. Matt is the last and has a plan set to have sex with his girlfriend of two years. But after he learns of her exploits at a frat party, his plans change. The group goes from one scheme to the next to help their heartbroken friend lose his v card.

The Virginity Hit hits the nail right on the head. Shot in a home video/youtube style this comedy makes you question if these events truly transpired. The film makes brilliant transitions from home video to youtube video and then back. I know sounds kind of strange, but when you see it you will be impressed with the style and simplicity the film is shot in.

Obviously this film falls into the raunchy comedy genre. Filled with movies like American Pie and Porky?s, The Virginity Hit adds a new dimension to this genre. It grabs this form of comedy and plays it out in the situation it was born in. These types of raunchy jokes come from the demented minds of sex crazy teens. This film simple presents them as they are in the real world, which again makes you question the films legitimacy.

The Virginity Hit won?t be taking home any Oscars. And the films biggest flaw is a lack of advertising, which has kept audiences in that dark about the existence of this film. But this film is one of the best comedies out this year, and will keep you laughing throughout. Being a limited release, this movie is not playing in every theater, but if it is playing near you I suggest you take a Virginity Hit.
