Review of The Virgin Suicides (2000) by Ricci E — 12 Jan 2010
This is the only thing since "Interview With the Vampire" in which I have truly enjoyed Kirsten Dunst, where she fit well. As the rebellious and wild Lux, she knocked it out of the park here.
Josh Hartnett and Jonathan Tucker brought their A games as well, topped off by the rest of the great ensemble cast. Unlike other movies where the soundtrack detracts from the story, the music selected here blends.
It fits. It enhances. Sofia Coppola's first effort is in my mind her best - not to say I haven't enjoyed her other work. This film (and the book) is a favorite that still moves me every time I see it.
(And loved the cameo by Michael Pare - Eddie Lives!).
