Review of The Virgin Spring (1960) by Andrew D — 26 Jul 2008
Cinematography is absolutely stunning. The film itself is very simple storywise, but there are some gut wrenching scenes. I guess... I'm just not into the questions Bergman asks sometimes. I love his characterizations (which are deeply felt and performed), but theme wise, I think he gets repetitive.
Not to say this isn't an excellent exercise of the inconsistencies of religion (through a person's point of view). If you love Bergman, you will most likely love this.
