Review of The Villainess (2017) by Squallgr — 07 Dec 2019
In the past few months I have started watching a lot of South Korean movies and in most cases I absolutely loved every single one of em ..
It's kinda fascinating to see how western movies copied some of their movies and vice versa ..
The Villainess falls in to the second category . A movie heavily influenced by western movies such as Nikitta and Kill Bill ..
The acting , the premise and the action are all there but where this movie stumbles is in it's story ...
I have noticed that many Korean action movies have the same problem of trying to be too many things at once ...
The movie tries to be deeper than it needs to be and some characters change motivations on a whim and some plot lines get muddled and incredibly confusing.
Look no further than the movies main villain . He starts off mysterious , goes full psycho , then troubled by his conscience and then full psycho again ...I still have no idea what his motivation was or how he actually felt.
Overall I found The Villainess an enjoyable movie .
