Review of The Villain (1979) by Andrew K — 12 Dec 2012
The Villain really is an odd one. The best way to describe it is Blazing Saddles meets Looney Toons but like both of those movies it somehow manages to be entertaining. It's another one of those so bad it's good movies where even when it's bad (Arnold Schwarzenegger playing a cowboy, a boulder that's clearly made out of paper-mache) it just adds to the charm.
And unlike most Westerns (although in all honesty this movie hardly qualifies as one) it's pacing isn't atrocious, things actually move along at perfect speed and you end up growing attached to both Schwarzeneggar's character and the Villain, both of whom respectively want to either be good or evil but both are horrible at it.
That being said, this isn't a perfect movie by far but I still enjoyed it and if you go into with the right mindset, you may enjoy The Villain for what it's worth.
