Review of The Village (2004) by Meredith P — 02 Sep 2012
A very interesting reflection of the power of cultural superstitions. This film displays an innocent resounding fear that grips a small community, reminiscent of folklore and horror stories of monsters and things of evil.
Completely different from my expectations as a tatty, stereotypical scary movie with simple characters that parade obliviously through an obvious plot (and all die). The imagery and camera work is powerful and suspenseful, giving only chilling glimpses of what the creatures are until everything is later unveiled.
