Review of The Village (2004) by Lauren M — 13 Oct 2012
I remember seeing this in the theater and laughing out loud and how stupid I thought the whole thing was. Watching it again, my feelings haven't changed much. It is beautifully shot and it does a great job of capturing this creepy rustic mood.
The problem is the accents are awful and unconvincing and so many scenes are just too ridiculous. For some reason I take particular offense at Willaim Hurt's shoddy acting. (My personal favorite is two guys throwing a hunk of meat about a foot in front of them after swinging it a bunch of times.
) Interesting albeit unrealistic premise but this film is just too cheesy to be good.
