Review of The Village (2004) by Kapil S — 30 Nov 2012
The Village is easily one of the best romance films ever produced. Yes, romance. Despite its frequent misclassification and poorly-executed advertising strategy, at its core, The Village is a power story of love and all the power it brings to the human heart and mind.
This film is commonly misunderstood as a suspense film, and often takes a lot of heat for its slow start and comfortably-paced finished. Many people also criticise the 'twist' ending, but I feel the 'twist' in the film was really rather less about being 'ah ha!' and more about betrayal and unrequited love. This film has been my favourite film for quite some time and it is one I continue to re-watch regularly. The Village is a masterpiece.
