Review of The Village (2004) by Seth S — 30 Jul 2014
I've never left a review on RT before but this beautiful and intelligent film deserves much better than its present rating. Apparently it was advertised as some kind of horror film. It isn't a horror film at all, but something very close to a Twilight Zone episode. Go in expecting that and you'll love it. Go in expecting some kind of BS slasher thing and you'll be sorely disappointed. As you should be - really, who needs to see another slasher flick? They're rubbish for morons.
Bryce Dallas Howard completely runs away with the film - she just shines. Joaquin Phoenix is lovely too. I don't think it makes sense to reveal anything about the story except that the twist is pretty much irrelevant. If you see it coming or if you don't it won't bother you. If you have a good brain and a good heart you'll love the movie anyway.
