Review of The Video Dead (1987) by Seth P — 25 Sep 2010
Wow this is a very obscure movie (not only had I never heard of it, there are very few reviews of it online)... I got a chance to watch this when it appeared on the Netflix Watch Instantly Queue...
As for the movie, If it wasnt for the extremely low budget and if the movie had better actors in it, this movie would be awesome. But due to the acting, which is stiff and unsure of itself, the characters are not likable, the dialogue is not frightening, not funny, and very dull. The setting is alright (considering it is just a house and a wooded area near a house)...
The best parts of this movie are the idea in which this movie is based off of (it awesome and very creative), the 'garbageman' in the Television (which they dont elaborate on, which sucks), the television itself (it is very mysterious and reminiscent of a cursed artifact from old lore), and the zombies are really cool looking (the have good special fx)... In all it was a let down, considering all of these good ideas falling under the tarnish of the low budget, and the time in which it was made (the 1980s was not a good time for direct to vhs movies).
