Review of The Vicious Kind (2009) by Andrew S — 13 Mar 2010
I throughly enjoyed this film. I've always been a fan of Adam Scott since his HBO days in Tell Me You Love Me. Slowly but surely he has been gaining more and more recognition over the years and now he finally has a shot to have a lead role.
He completely disappears into the character of Caleb, and it's such a joy to watch Caleb despite his vicious and unconventional ways Caleb is a fascinating character. I actually really liked him despite the fact that he is a complete and utter asshole of a human being.
..now that proves two things good acting and amazing direction. I really like how the film offers these awkwardly funny moments and than veers off completely into total intensity and insanity. And it flows perfectly too.
J.K Simmons is a pleasure too watch he adds to the dark humorous tone of the film and really showcases his dramatic acting chops as well. Alex Frost never heard of him but he was the epitome of adorable.
Brittany Snow not only looks stunning with short jet black hair but she proves she can handle mature and complex roles and do an excellent job in the process. The Vicious Kind is filled with the right amount of drama and dark comedy you just can't help but love all the characters despite their flaws nor do you want the story to reach it's natural end.
