Review of The Very Thought of You (1998) by Richard F — 05 Jun 2009
Enjoyable little romcom. I remember this coming out but have only just got round to seeing it. Yank Martha comes to England because it's the cheapest flight she can buy and ends up making three friends with distinctly different life and romantic styles fall for her (the Frank, Daniel and Laurence of the title, or at least the UK title). She then gets to choose the one she wants and break the other two men's hearts. Aww! how sweet!
It could have been something really special but ends up being predictable and exactly what the title suggests. As I said before, enjoyable, not great.
On another note, why is there always an American in supposedly British romantic comedies? (Four Weddings, Notting Hill, Love Actually, this) - is it something to do with making them appeal to US audiences or a secret UK government plan to get more American girls in England on the basis they will just fall in love here? Why that's ridiculous, surely. ;-).
