Review of The Verdict (1982) by Steve C — 31 Mar 2008
A top notch political courtroom drama from director Lumet. Although not as exceptional as 12 ANGRY MEN, the Verdict is nonetheless a skillful, stirring, and fascinating plot that resembles David and Goliath in terms of the courtroom battle circumstances.
The personal story of Frank Gaven's redemption from a life of boozing and downfalls makes the film also a bit meaningful as well. Overall, I highly recommend this movie. It's a little inaccurate in terms of how the court system works, but the plot is what really matters here.
And Newman's nuanced performance was great as well.
