My favorite Newman movie, this serves as a handbook for acting, direction & screenwriting. Newman as a lost soul redeemed, Warden his spirit guide, Rampling his betrayer; all played with deftness & believability.
And the plot! The audience cheered aloud at the climactical scene, a 1st for me.
