Review of The Verdict (1982) by Frances G — 03 Aug 2008
This is how Hollywood movies used to be, though it makes me feel old to be thinking like this. Never would a H movie be this slow in 2008 - no special effects, just lighting, narrative ... and a healthy hostility to American institions, in this case the Law.
This is not Sidney Lumet at his best, but it's a damn sight better than Kung Fu Panda which is also playing right now. Charlotte Rampling is superb - of course - and her character quite but complex and revealing.
