Review of The Verdict (1982) by Scott W — 16 Apr 2010
This a repeat viewing: The film offers great performances by not only Newman, but Jack Warden, Rampling and James Mason. The brilliant patient pacing by Lumet, (the polaroids that develop in real time!) and his almost complete use of wide shots to cover the action are all worthy of a great film.
However there are moments of over-acting and cringe inducing scoring, which unfortunately undermines the film's power and subject matter.
