Review of The Vault (2021) by Umaumai — 24 Apr 2021
I enjoyed this movie in spite of itself. It seemed so determined to rush through its run time with very little thought to pacing or character development. Both of these things are forced upon viewers with heavy handed dialogue.
I’m supposed to believe Highmore’s character is super intelligent and can figure any issue out in the moment because we’re TOLD he solved an oil spill problem, which they never show us, and is being courted by oil companies? The one “big” turn or twist in this movie wasn’t all that impressive or emotional, but I still found the movie taught and somewhat intense given the situations all the characters get into.
Liam Cunningham is great, but like his fellow actors his character falls into too many film tropes leaving his screen time flat. I’d say that’s mostly a dialogue issue as the script and concept here is pretty cool as far as bank job movies go.
If you are looking for something that will somewhat satisfy a heist genre craving and won’t ever go off the rails it’s traveling then this is okay.
